New Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat outlines his winning mentality in first interview
Manchester United’s new midfield signing Sofyan Amrabat shared his philosophy and similarities with Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag in his first interview since joining the club.
United signed the Morocco international from Fiorentina on a season-long loan. The deal also contains an option-to-buy clause. The new signing is given a No. 4 shirt as he looks to prove himself.
The 27-year-old once played under the Dutch boss during their time at Utrecht. Ten Hag made Amrabat a regular at the Eredivisie club after promoting him from the club’s Academy.
While speaking to United’s official site, Amrabat said,
“It was very important because I was very young, around 18 or 19 years old, and he gave me the chance to play in the first team at Utrecht. We had a fantastic time, a really good season. I learned a lot from him, so maybe he’s one of the most significant figures in my career thus far.”
Amrabat’s arrival comes as Manchester United’s midfield has shown vulnerability in the early part of the season.
Veterans Casemiro and Christian Eriksen played the majority of the minutes but aren’t exactly young anymore to bear the load. Both players have struggled with form and appeared to lack the energy required to cover the defence while also contributing to the offense.
New signing Mason Mount started the first two games in a deeper role but struggled to make an impact and is currently injured. Expressing his readiness to fight for United, Amrabat stated,
“It’s fantastic because I think Erik ten Hag is a coach who always pushes to the limit. He’s hungry, he wants to win, he’s a winner, and I like that. I believe I share a similar mentality; I’m also a winner. I aim to win every day, so it’s a good match.”
The Moroccan fits the profile that United needs, given their performance in the first four Premier League games. The club will benefit from a player with a winning mentality and the drive to fight for the team in every minute of the game.
When asked about his style of play, Amrabat kept it simple, emphasising that actions speak louder than words. He explained,
“I don’t like to talk about myself; I want to demonstrate it on the pitch. But I can promise that I will give my best in everything—every day, every minute, every second. So, that’s the only thing I can say for now.”

The question remains whether Amrabat will live up to the global hype he earned during the 2022 World Cup. United fans are eager to have a midfielder who possesses the energy to run tirelessly while also delivering quality for the team.
