Joao Félix chose childhood club Barcelona over Manchester United
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Joao Félix realized his dream when he secured a loan move to Barcelona, turning down offers from clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Al-Hilal.
In 2019, Félix made a €126 million transfer to Atlético Madrid. Despite his initial success, his relationship with Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone soured. Atlético loaned Félix to Chelsea in January 2023 until the end of the season where he failed to impress.
Félix’s Remarkable Skills
The 23-year-old Portuguese international boasts incredible dribbling and ball-carrying abilities. He thrives in a central position and adds creativity to the team.
Ten Hag’s Intentions
Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has an exceptional playmaker in Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes. His ability and importance gained him the captaincy role before the start of the current season.
Furthermore, the new United signing, Mason Mount would be playing in a deeper role as witnessed during the start of the season. Mount played in a more attacking role at Chelsea, but it seems Ten Hag has different plans for him.
Hence, it doesn’t seem Manchester United needed a player for the No. 10 role, a position Felix can and has played in before.
Félix’s Dedication to Barcelona
Félix rejected every club that came in for him because of his love for Barcelona, to the extent that he accepted a reduced salary.
He also gave an exclusive interview with Fabrizio Romano where he said he only wanted to join Barcelona. One can’t do much if that is the case and the player has his heart set on joining another club.
United’s Prospects
For Manchester United, Ten Hag’s pursuit of players of Félix’s calibre is a positive sign. In the upcoming transfer window, there is the possibility of a new playmaker joining to assist Fernandes with playmaking responsibilities.
