Manchester United’s medical staff detected Sofyan Amrabat’s injury issue
Manchester United secured the services of Sofyan Amrabat on a season-long loan deal. United have an option to purchase the Moroccan midfielder.
Amrabat’s acquisition was a crucial move for United’s manager, Erik ten Hag. The United boss sought a deep-lying playmaker and has found one who is known for his stamina and ability to infuse energy into the team.
The signing took place on deadline day. Hence, the player’s medical examination took place in Italy to finalize the deal before the transfer window closed.
During the medical assessment, the club’s medical staff identified a back issue, as reported by The Athletic. According to the report, Amrabat had to rely on pain-killing injections during the World Cup in December. The medical staff concluded that the injury was not serious enough to stop the transfer.
Amrabat predominantly operates as a deep-lying playmaker, although he possesses the versatility to adapt to various midfield roles. The 27-year-old gained acclaim for his outstanding performances during the 2022 World Cup.
One of the World Cup’s memorable moments was Amrabat’s lung-busting run against world-class striker Kylian Mbappe. Amrabat caught up to the French forward and made an impeccable tackle — that did not look like a player in discomfort or one who was scared to flare up an underlying injury.
The Moroccan international is renowned for his remarkable ball-winning abilities, enduring stamina, and adeptness in maintaining possession for his team.
United are hopeful that the injury will not hinder Amrabat’s contribution and we can trust our medical department to be careful with such things during the medical itself to begin with. Moreover, this is a loan transfer and we don’t have an obligation to buy the player, which makes the transfer a low-risk high-reward move by the club in case his injury flares up.

United’s midfield is in dire need of someone who can apply pressure on the opposition with stamina and determination, making Amrabat an ideal fit for the role.
Presently, the primary midfield starters are Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. Despite their enduring quality, both players are slightly past their prime and Amrabat will undoubtedly add legs and steel to that area of the pitch.
