Manchester United starlet Marc Jurado completes a switch to La Liga 2 side Espanyol on a permanent move
As revealed by the club’s official website, Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Spanish defender Marc Jurado to Espanyol in a permanent transfer this summer.
The 19-year-old joined the Red Devils from Barcelona in 2020 but did not have the opportunity to make an official appearance for the first team.
Jurado made it to the matchday squad for the senior team for the first time when they faced Nottingham Forest in April last season, and he also participated in the pre-season tour of the United States this summer, playing a part in the game against Wrexham.
However, the right-back, who scored the only goal in a 3-1 defeat to a League Two side, was unable to secure a spot in the first team.
United fans will remember him for his contribution to the under-18s’ victory in the FA Youth Cup last season. Additionally, he also played a vital role for the under-21s in the Premier League 2 during the previous season.
As a Spain youth international, Jurado amassed a total of 86 appearances for United’s Academy during the Professional Development Phase. He is now set to showcase his skills in the Spanish Second Division as he joins Espanyol.
The youngster’s transfer from Camp Nou had attracted considerable interest, and there were high expectations for the young player. However, his journey with the club came to an end before it could truly start.
The former La Masia player faced competition from several senior defenders at Old Trafford, making it challenging to secure a first-team spot.
However, he possesses the potential to shine as a key player for his new Spanish club, Espanyol, and will be focused on helping them in their quest for promotion to La Liga.
A number of young players have left United this summer. The list includes Matej Kovar, Nathan Bishop, Charlie Savage, Bjorn Hardley, Ethan Laird, Teden Mengi, Ethan Galbraith, Di’Shon Bernard, and Zidane Iqbal.
These players struggled to break into the senior squad, and it’s possible that more departures may be confirmed in the coming hours.
