Manchester United finally reach agreement with Fiorentina to sign Moroccan star Sofyan Amrabat on a loan
As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have successfully negotiated a deal with Fiorentina to sign midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a loan deal on transfer deadline day.
As per Romano, a deal has been struck between both clubs on the basis of an interesting loan proposal.
The deal involves an initial loan move, costing approximately €10 million, with an option to make the transfer permanent in June 2024 for a fee of roughly €20m, along with an additional €5m in potential add-ons.
The Red Devils were just hours away from facing the deadline-day exit, and they have been looking busy securing a deal for the African ace.
There is work to do still, but an agreement between the clubs has solved most of the issues. The player is on his way to complete medical tests with his new club.
The fans would be more than ecstatic to see the deal go through after going through a surge of mixed feelings in this dramatic transfer saga.
Amrabat was fully determined to move to Manchester, and he rejected moves from several other clubs, most notably a late push from Premier League side Fulham.
The 27-year-old player, who hails from the Netherlands but represents Morocco in international football, gained recognition for his standout performances during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He has been giving a green signal to a move to Old Trafford since June and has not participated in Fiorentina’s early-season matches.
Having developed in the FC Utrecht academy in the Netherlands, Amrabat previously played under the current United manager, Erik Ten Hag, during his time at Utrecht.
Over the years, he has also featured for clubs such as Feyenoord, Club Brugge, Hellas Verona, and Fiorentina, and it appears that he has finally joined his desired club.
The experienced defensive midfielder has consistently displayed outstanding defensive abilities during his four seasons in Serie A while playing for Fiorentina.
He is now entering his prime, and making a move to the Premier League (PL) seems like a logical next step given his skill set.
It is a great tactical signing for Man United since they lacked a proper cover for Casemiro and suffered a lot of backlash for their underwhelming midfield performances in the initial games of the new PL season.
No wonder; they have the keys to experiment with various options in the centre of the field once they complete Amrabat‘s signing. It remains to be seen how Mason Mount’s recent injury will push Ten Hag to use the Serie A star in his current starting XI.
