Manchester United legend Roy Keane is a massive surprise in the launch of a vintage-inspired adidas jersey

As revealed by the club’s official website, Manchester United have unveiled their fresh Adidas third kit for the 2023-24 season, and the promotional video features former club captain Roy Keane.

Unlike the conventional club crest that has adorned the jersey since the 1970s, this kit does not feature it. Instead, it showcases the new Red Devil logo on its own.

The design draws inspiration from United’s inaugural FA Cup victory in the 1908-09 season. The newly revealed third kit boasts a sleek white design, and the front-of-shirt sponsor remains TeamViewer.

The core of the shirt features a white colour adorned with a textured design on the torso. The jersey is accented with red detailing, including the collar, badge, sponsor logo, and the logo of the kit manufacturer.

The promotional video, narrated by club legend Keane, featured the new shirt being showcased by current players including Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Alejandro Garnacho.

However, the 51-year-old former midfielder made a peculiar appearance at the video’s end, where he is seen looking at a prawn sandwich.

This reference to the sandwich alludes to his infamous outburst in 2000 following a Champions League match against Dynamo Kyiv, during which he criticised the passion of the home fans compared to the away supporters.

Keane, who left Man United in 2005 after a controversial interview on MUTV where he criticised his teammates, has reappeared in a surprising move as the club launched their new third kit for the upcoming season.

This marks his first involvement with the club since his departure, aside from appearances in testimonials and charity matches.

Keane’s inclusion in the promotional video for the kit was unexpected, with him starting the clip by asking,

“So you’re a devil, are you?”

The video then features current players like Rashford and Casemiro, with Rashford showcasing his signature celebration gesture and Casemiro looking down at Old Trafford.

The authentic third kit can be purchased for £110, and a long-sleeve variant is priced at £120. A replica of the kit is priced at £80, while the children’s version is available for £40.

In our opinion, the recently revealed jersey appears incredibly attractive. The decision to involve Keane in the kit unveiling was a clever move by United and Adidas.

Earlier, the Red Devils introduced two kits for the upcoming season. The initial one is their home shirt, which pays tribute to the city’s renowned red rose emblem.

The second kit is their away attire, featuring green and white stripes. These stripes draw inspiration from the club’s football jerseys from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
