Manchester United in discussions with Amiens SC to secure a loan deal for centre-back Teden Mengi
As revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, French tier 2 football club Amiens SC have shown interest in the talented Manchester United player Teden Mengi.
They have put forward a loan proposal for the young centre-back, aiming to offer him a chance to improve his game time in the French Ligue 2. However, the specifics of the loan offer have not been disclosed at this point.
Presently, talks are in progress involving Man United and Amiens. An official confirmation regarding the loan offer is yet to be provided by both the clubs and the player.
The young English defender, who has represented the national team up to the U20 level, is currently not a natural starter for Erik ten Hag.
With five centre-backs ahead of him in the pecking order, it would be safe to say that it is difficult for the youngster to make space in the starting XI.
As a result, Mengi might depart from the club on loan during the ongoing summer transfer window. Amiens fans would be curious to witness the youngster’s performances.
The 21-year-old Manchester-born player emerged from United’s youth ranks.
He subsequently underwent two loan spells in the English Championship, first at Derby County and then at Birmingham. During each loan stint, he featured in around ten matches.
Mengi, who is right-footed but adaptable to either central defensive position, gained experience by even participating in a Champions League fixture as a left-back, along with an appearance in a Europa League game.
Unfortunately, he was unable to secure a spot in the English Premier League. Amiens might be concerned about the fact that the player’s contract will expire next year. His poor injury record in the past two seasons is also a worrying sign.
The question arises whether United would support a loan move while potentially losing the player without a transfer fee.
