West Ham United and Manchester United in ‘direct contact’ for Harry Maguire
Manchester United and Premier League rivals West Ham United are in ‘direct contact’ regarding a move for Harry Maguire, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Hammers are interested in acquiring the services of the centre-back in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the London Stadium side put in a £30 million bid to get a hold of his signature.
It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will accept the Irons’ offer. David Moyes’ team are yet to get in touch with the England international regarding personal terms.
As things stand, West Ham and the Old Trafford side will continue their discussions over the defender. Along with the Hammers, a number of other teams in the English top flight have the 30-year-old on their radar as well.
The Irons did not enjoy the best of seasons in the league in the 2022/23 term. They were fighting relegation for the most part but managed to survive. In the end, the London Stadium side ended up lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League title.
Now, Moyes’ team are set to play in the Europa League in the upcoming campaign. The former Man United manager has the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma, Thilo Kehrer and Angelo Ogbonna at his disposal.
Maguire boasts a lot of experience. The centre-back has featured in European competitions for the Red Devils over the years. Despite his waning influence at the Old Trafford side, Gareth Southgate has had faith in the English national to be a key player in major tournaments.

In the summer of 2019, Man United signed Maguire for £80 million from Leicester City. He has not lived up to that price tag. While West Ham are offering a fraction of what we spent on the defender, it seems like a fair offer considering the English national’s performances in recent months.
