Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson has nowhere to go as Nottingham Forest prefer alternate options

According to the Sun, Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s future is still up in the air ahead of his parent club’s Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14 at Old Trafford.

The experienced shot-stopper’s future at the club has been nothing less than a see-saw ride. After being persistently linked with Nottingham Forest, the fans were expecting the English star to finally make a move this summer.

However, things have taken an awkward turn as Steve Cooper’s side have changed their transfer plans altogether. The 26-year-old star has encountered a new setback as Forest have shifted its focus to pursuing Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Recently, the Red Devils completed the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan, and he is expected to be their primary goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Tom Heaton and Henderson currently serve as backup options for manager Erik ten Hag, but there have been ongoing speculations about the latter’s potential departure from United.

Last month, it was suggested that the English goalkeeper was inclined towards a permanent move to Forest after spending the previous season on loan with them.

At the moment, the possibility of him moving to his potential suitor seems unlikely, as they have made an initial transfer bid to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Turner.

The Gunners are currently in advanced negotiations with Brentford for the potential signing of David Raya, and if this deal materialises, it could pave the way for Turner’s move to City Ground.

This development comes as a blow to Henderson, as his move to Forest was previously considered highly likely, but the situation has undergone a significant change in the past few weeks.

Recently, the club made an attempt to sign the England international on an initial loan with an obligation to buy if he reaches a specific number of appearances.

However, the Red Devils rejected the proposal and expressed a preference for a straightforward cash deal. Unfortunately, this decision may have had unintended consequences, as Forest have now shifted its attention to pursuing Turner instead of Henderson.

This is no good news for the United keeper, as he has no guarantees placed on his future at the club. The new Premier League season will start in a week’s time, and until then, it’s highly unlikely to find a solution for the No. 26’s status at Old Trafford.

He may still make the bench, but any player will be worried about his chances of playing if things don’t go according to his plans. It’s also unclear whether Forest will still try to make a move for the United shot-stopper in the upcoming weeks.

There is time left in the transfer window to resolve Henderson‘s future. Man United would not want to retain a goalkeeper who has no intention of staying.

The hope is that more offers will come in for the talented player before the transfer window closes on September 1. It’s not a comfortable moment for any player wanting to revive his career elsewhere.
