Erik ten Hag preferred Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United over Randal Kolo Muani
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag preferred Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund over Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani this summer, according to The Athletic’s Talk of the Devils podcast (h/t Express).
The hierarchy at the Old Trafford side were interested in acquiring the services of the France international in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the club were even considering pursuing the 24-year-old.
However, the Dutch manager held out for the signature of the Danish national. Now, the Red Devils are close to completing a £72 million deal for the 20-year-old.
Hojlund joined Atalanta from Sturm Graz last summer. The forward immediately made a place for himself in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans. He was pivotal to the Bergamo-based club’s starting lineup.
In the 2022/23 term, the Danish national showcased glimpses of his talent. The youngster scored 10 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for La Dea in the previous campaign.
On the other hand, Kolo Muani broke onto the scene as well last season. The striker signed for Eintracht as a free agent in the summer of 2022. Subsequently, he became their talisman.
In the previous campaign, the French national showcased his ability in the attacking third of the pitch. The former Nantes star found the back of the net 23 times and provided 17 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.
Going by their numbers, Hojlund seemingly does not hold a candle to Kolo Muani. However, there are other factors, like age and potential, that need to be taken into consideration as well.
