Rasmus Hojlund’s debut is to be delayed as Manchester United will miss him for a few weeks
Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is expected to be unavailable for the beginning of the 2023-24 season due to an injury he sustained during Atalanta BC’s pre-season preparations.
The new signing finalised his transfer to Old Trafford on Saturday and was formally introduced to the fans at Old Trafford before the team’s pre-season match against Lens.
The fans were expecting that the Danish ace would be able to play in the team’s last pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday.
However, the Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has revealed that the 20-year-old star will miss the first few weeks of the season due to a minor injury he sustained during pre-season.
According to Whitwell, the forward is currently training but needs a few weeks to regain match fitness, indicating that he is expected to miss at least United’s first two games of the 2023-24 Premier League season.
The Red Devils are scheduled to kick off their league campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14, followed by an away fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on August 19.
Depending on the progress of his injury, Hojlund may have the chance to make his debut for the Red Devils in their match against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on August 26.
Hojlund is the third signing by manager Erik ten Hag in the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The youngster put pen to paper on a five-year contract in front of the club media on Saturday.
The Dutch boss has a very interesting player in his hands but he will have to wait to see him work his magic on the field. Hojlund is a versatile player who can operate across the attacking positions, not just as a traditional central striker.
Ten Hag is still eyeing another midfielder before the transfer window closes, but any further signings will depend on players leaving the club.
Man United fans were ecstatic to watch their new signing walk through the tunnel at Old Trafford and click a mandatory selfie in front of the huge home crowd.
However, their patience will be tested even further as they have to wait to witness the young Danish striker take the field in a red shirt.
