Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is a Saudi target amidst interest from Manchester United
Saudi Arabian clubs are targeting Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in the ongoing transfer window amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Morocco international in the ongoing transfer window. Erik ten Hag is keen on reinforcing the middle of the park further after the addition of Mason Mout from Chelsea recently.
However, speaking to Voetbal Primeur (h/t Manchester Evening News), the midfielder’s agent, Mahmoud El Boustati, revealed that a number of teams were looking to acquire the 26-year-old’s services, including those in the Middle East.
“If something interesting comes up, Sofyan is open to the step, Fiorentina too. There are two, three clubs that he is open to. There is interest from Saudi Arabia. But there is no concrete offer or concrete interest.”
The Saudi Pro League has been on a spending spree. In January, Al-Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo after he left the Old Trafford side mid-way through the 2022/23 term.
Subsequently, in the ongoing transfer window, the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and several other established European football stars have made their way to Saudi Arabia.
It remains to be seen whether Amrabat will take the same path in the coming weeks. The Moroccan shone for Fiorentina in the previous campaign as they reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final.
The 26-year-old also caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays in the 2022 World Cup. Walid Regragui’s team made it to the semi-finals in Qatar.
At United, Casemiro cemented his place in the number six position last season. The Brazil international has added much-needed quality to our ranks since his arrival in the summer of 2022. However, Ten Hag lacks a lot of options to provide adequate cover in the absence of the 31-year-old

Therefore, Amrabat is arguably better equipped than Scott McTominay and Fred to play as a defensive midfielder. However, will the allure of the Saudi Pro League manage to entice the Moroccan as well? Only time will tell.
