Harry Maguire urged to leave Manchester United “for his own sake”
Former Premier League ace Clinton Morrison has urged Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to part ways with Manchester United this summer.
It seems unlikely that the England international has a future at the Old Trafford side. He has fallen down the pecking order since Erik ten Hag’s arrival. In the previous campaign, the centre-back made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils but started in just eight matches in the PL.
Speaking via Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Morrison, who most notably played for Crystal Palace, feels Maguire needs to be selfish. The ex-forward wants the 30-year-old to think about his future.
“Harry Maguire needs to leave Manchester United for his own sake. No one likes to leave a club like that as they’re one of the biggest in the World, but Maguire has to think of himself.”
United signed the centre-back in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City and still is, to date, the most expensive defender. However, the English national has failed to live up to that price tag.
Initially, Maguire started well at the Old Trafford side. The 30-year-old was an influential player for the Manchester-based club under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was handed the captain’s armband a few months into his career at the Red Devils.
However, over the past few seasons, the defender has been error-prone and has looked short of confidence in a United shirt. Although, the English national has managed to put in decent performances for the Three Lions.
Last season, the centre-back was a bit-part player at the Old Trafford side. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were preferred by Ten Hag in the backline during his first year in charge of the club.
Victor Lindelof was also heavily called upon in the absence of the two World Cup winners. Even Luke Shaw put in some decent displays as a central defender in the previous campaign.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see Maguire, who was recently stripped of the armband, leave United this summer. However, will the English national opt to leave the Red Devils in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
