Fiorentina CEO denies Manchester United bid for Sofyan Amrabat
Joe Barone, the CEO of Fiorentina, has denied talks of Manchester United putting in a bid for Sofyan Amrabat in the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils are interested in the Morocco international this summer. However, as things stand, the Old Trafford side are focused on getting a deal done with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund. Any additions to the engine room will be discussed later.
Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Barone dismissed the idea of Man United having already put in an offer for the 26-year-old. The midfielder has been told to focus on the Viola for the time being.
“We have not received any proposal for Sofyan. I told him to stay focused on our club.”
Fiorentina signed Amrabat in January 2020. Subsequently, the Moroccan has grown from strength to strength during his time at the Florence-based club.
However, in the previous campaign, the midfielder caught a lot of people’s attention with his performances in the 2022 World Cup. Walid Regragui’s team made it to the semi-finals and the 26-year-old played a big part in their success.
Amrabat also was pivotal to the Viola’s campaign. The Serie A outfit made it to the UEFA Europa Conference League final but lost to Premier League outfit West Ham United.
As for Man United, we had Casemiro sweeping up opposition attacks in the middle of the park last season. The Brazilian made his way to the Manchester-based club last summer and has cemented his place in the number six position.
Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag had to rely heavily on the 31-year-old. Without him in the team in the 2022/23 term, the Red Devils struggled to get positive results. Scott McTominay and Fred were unable to provide adequate cover.
