Manchester City hold talks with Manchester United target and Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard
Premier League rivals Manchester City have held talks with Manchester United target and Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.
The Sky Blues have made contact with the representatives of the France international. Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of the right-back and is interested in adding him to the Cityzens’ ranks.
However, City are yet to reach any sort of agreement with the 27-year-old. As things stand, the Bavarians are still waiting for a concrete proposal for him.
Pavard is also being eyed by the Red Devils at the moment. Apart from the two Manchester-based clubs, Serie A giants Juventus are also in the race for the defender.
The 2018 World Cup winner signed for Bayern in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. He has been a pivotal player for them over the years. However, the 27-year-old’s current contract with the Bundesliga giants expires next summer (transfermarkt).
At City, Joao Cancelo’s future at the club is uncertain. Also, Bayern are looking to acquire the services of Kyle Walker from the Sky Blues in the coming weeks.
On the other hand, United have two decent right-backs at their disposal. Diogo Dalot was a constant fixture at the start of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at the Old Trafford side.
However, in the second half of the 2022/23 term, Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a place for himself in the gaffer’s plans. Subsequently, the 25-year-old pipped the Portugal international in the pecking order.

Therefore, for now, we have enough options at our disposal for the right-hand side of the defence. However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will opt to pursue Pavard and let one of their current right-backs leave.
