Jonny Evans is back training with Manchester United after leaving Leicester City
As per the Manchester Evening News, Jonny Evans is training with Manchester United to stay fit after being released by Leicester City at the end of last season.
Evans was a part of the Foxes squad that got relegated from the Premier League last season. He had injury issues, hence played only 13 league games in that campaign.
The 35-year-old was a youth player at United and was at the club for nine years before leaving for West Bromwich Albion on a permanent deal in 2015.
The defender is now training with the first-team and Academy players at the Red Devils. Having an experienced player like this would be good for the young players around.
Let’s hope he gets a move to a club where he can play regularly and make a big impact. Had he been fit for the majority of last season, Leicester might have had a better defensive record and that could have been enough to save them from relegation.
Evans is a high-quality centre-back who reads the game well, can pass the ball with good accuracy and is comfortable at winning aerial duels in his box.
Although United have good options in central defence with the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, the backup slot is there to be taken. Harry Maguire might leave and Victor Lindelof isn’t as good as the first two names mentioned.
Keeping that in mind and knowing Evans is available for free, will Erik ten Hag make a move to sign the 35-year-old for a season or two? His experience could be valuable for the squad regardless of whether he plays every week or not.
