Everton asking price for Jordan Pickford discouraged Manchester United transfer pursuit
Manchester United backed away from a deal for Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford this summer due to the Toffees’ demands, according to the Daily Star (h/t Express).
The Red Devils were interested in acquiring the services of the England international to replace David de Gea. In the previous campaign, the 32-year-old was the number one at the Old Trafford side, but he is now a free agent.
United had identified the Goodison Park side’s experienced goalkeeper due to his impressive ball-playing abilities. To that end, the Red Devils were willing to pay £45 million to get a hold of the 29-year-old’s signature.
However, Everton wanted much more. The Old Trafford side hit an obstacle in their pursuit of Pickford after the Merseyside outfit demanded £70 million for him.
The English national joined the Toffees in the summer of 2017 from Sunderland. Since then, the shot-stopper has been the first choice in between the sticks for the Goodison Park side. The 29-year-old is also Gareth Southagte’s number one.
In the last two seasons, Pickford has been pivotal in Everton’s bid to survive the drop from the Premier League. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Toffees want a hefty sum to sell him.
However, while the English national has been impressive, there have been some sketchy moments from the goalkeeper over the years. The 29-year-old has been error-prone at the Goodison Park side.
Last season, De Gea similarly left a lot to be desired at times. We are now set to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The Cameroonian has previously starred under Erik ten Hag at Ajax Amsterdam.

Everton’s valuation of Pickford seems unrealistic. Therefore, it is wise that the Old Trafford side did not opt to pay over the odds to get the English national.
