Manchester United could announce the arrival of Andre Onana on Monday as the fee is agreed
As per a tweet from Matteo Barzaghi from Sky Sports Italy, there is an agreement between Manchester United and Inter Milan for Andre Onana and the announcement could be on Monday.
The deal will cost United somewhere around €50m plus bonuses. Only the last ‘okay’ from the goalkeeper awaits before this can be done and dusted.
This coming from an Italian source makes up for good reading because the selling club in this instance is from that country.
With David de Gea leaving for free upon the expiry of his contract this summer, Onana would most probably come and take the number one spot in the side.
United boss Erik ten Hag knows the Cameroon international from the time when the duo were at Ajax. The latter was a good goalkeeper then, but he has become better now.
Onana is an elite keeper who is good at shot-stopping, can command his box very well and is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet. The latter was something de Gea was bad at. Ten Hag’s system relies on a stopper to be good on the ball. Hence, it makes sense to sign the former Ajax number one.
With an important position in the team almost sorted (subject to the final announcement), United must look at the striker situation now and look to rectify it in the market very soon.

They cannot go to next season relying on Marcus Rashford to score all the goals. Ten Hag could spread the goals around, but that is never easy. It is always good to have a player who can score 25+ goals per season. Let’s hope there’s a deal around to be done to bolster that position this summer itself.
