Chelsea join Manchester United in the race for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United have been joined by Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race to sign Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund this summer, according to Fichajes.net.
The Denmark international has attracted interest from some top teams after putting in impressive displays last season. La Dea are aware of the attention their forward is courting and want at least €50 million for him.
To that end, the Red Devils and the Blues are expected to match the Bergamo-based club’s valuation for their striker. It remains to be seen which team will be able to get a hold of the 20-year-olds signature.
As things stand, Hojlund is keen on a move to United and wants to work under Erik ten Hag. However, the Stamford Bridge side are hoping to hijack the Manchester-based club’s pursuit.
Atalanta signed the Danish national last summer from Sturm Graz. He has immediately become a key player for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team. The 20-year-old found the back of the net nine times in 32 Serie A appearances.
Chelsea’s attack has struggled for goals for some time now. Their punt on Romelu Lukaku has failed so far. Kai Havertz has also joined Arsenal. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a flop signing, while Raheem Sterling has also been unable to make a big enough impact at the Blues.
On the other hand, Anthony Martial is the only striker at Erik ten Hag’s disposal right now. In the previous campaign, the French national was on the sidelines on multiple occasions and we signed Wout Weghorst in January on loan to add cover up front.
It can be argued whether Hojlund will be an upgrade over the former AS Monaco star. However, the Danish national’s addition will add more depth to our attack.
