Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente being eyed by Manchester United and Liverpool
Manchester United and Premier League rivals Liverpool are set to battle it out to acquire the services of Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net.
Los Rojiblancos could part ways with the midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Red Devils and the Merseyside outfit are interested in the 28-year-old.
Both the Old Trafford side and Jurgen Klopp’s team have put in big offers for Llorente this summer. However, the La Liga outfit are looking to get €60 million for the Spain international to help with their finances as well as invest in the team.
The midfielder recently put pen to paper on a new contract, keeping him at Atletico until June 2026. However, the 28-year-old’s performances in recent months have declined due to a change in his position on the pitch.
Llorente signed for Los Rojiblancos in the summer of 2019 from Real Madrid. Initially, the Spaniard was a defensive midfielder. However, he thrived playing behind the striker under Diego Simeone. But over the last two seasons, the 28-year-old has mostly played as a full-back.
At Liverpool, the engine room struggled to keep their standards high in the previous campaign. The Anfield side were poor overall and failed to finish in the top four. They have bolstered their midfield with Alexis Mac Allister this summer.
On the other hand, United added Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to their ranks last summer. The two added much-needed quality to the Red Devils’ middle of the park in the 2022/23 term.
We have also signed Mason Mount from Chelsea recently. The 24-year-old looks like an upgrade over the Denmark international in our engine room. Bruno Fernandes was also a key player for the gaffer in his first year in charge of the Old Trafford side.

Llorente is a versatile midfielder who could evidently come in handy to Ten Hag. However, the Spaniard’s underwhelming performances as of late and hefty price tag do not make him a compelling option to bolster the midfield.
