Bayern Munich shot-stopper Yann Sommer still of interest to Manchester United
Manchester United are still interested in Bayern Munich shot-stopper Yann Sommer in the ongoing transfer window, according to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, the Red Devils are in search of a new goalkeeper after the expiration of David de Gea’s contract at the end of last month. As things stand, the Spaniard is a free agent. But the Old Trafford side have not closed the door regarding offering the 32-year-old a new deal.
However, as things stand, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana is the first choice in United’s list to replace the former Atletico Madrid star. However, the Red Devils also have other alternative options.
To that end, Sommer is on the Old Trafford side’s radar. The Swiss national has entered the final 12 months of his stay at Bayern. This summer, the Allianz Arena side are willing to part ways with the shot-stopper.
The veteran goalkeeper made his way to the Bavarians in January from Borussia Monchengladbach. With Manuel Neuer on the sidelines, the 34-year-old played the majority of the games for the Bundesliga giants in the second half of the previous campaign.
Sommer put in some impressive displays for Bayern last season, especially in the Champions League. However, it remains to be seen what role the Swiss national will have at the Allianz Arena side with Neuer back from his injury.
With De Gea gone, United have Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton as the only two senior goalkeepers in their ranks. However, the former on-loan Nottingham Forest shot-stopper could join the Tricky Trees on a permanent transfer in the coming weeks.

Therefore, we evidently need to add reinforcements in between the sticks. However, relying on Sommer as our number one next season does not look like a wise move. The Swiss national’s age seemingly does not make him an ideal candidate.
