Out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could go to Celtic

As per Football Scotland, Scottish treble winners Celtic is one of the possible destinations for out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

A few days ago, it was revealed in the Manchester Evening News that McTominay is one of the players United will look to sell to raise funds for signing players this summer.

Since the arrival of Erik ten Hag last year, the Scotland international has struggled for regular game time at Old Trafford. Casemiro arriving from Real Madrid and taking over the defensive midfield role is probably the big reason behind that.

The 26-year-old has a contract with United until 2025, with a club option of extending that by a year (Transfermarkt). As of now, it seems like the club would be happy to see the back of him.

Coming back to the original report, it is mentioned that the Red Devils would command £40m to sell the Scotsman. That’s a bit ambitious, isn’t it? It definitely rules Celtic out of the equation.

Newcastle United have been tracking the progress of the midfielder, but they have recently signed AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali to bolster their defensive midfield.

One can understand United’s urge to raise funds through player sales in this window. However, slapping a price tag as high as mentioned above on a player like McTominay would not entice many offers.

They should either lower that or be ready to negotiate it down so that the prospective buyer does not walk away from the deal due to the financial issue.

The 26-year-old is a decent player but being in a United squad that will compete in the Premier League and the Champions League sounds like a step too far for him. Let’s hope that a club signs him this summer with an offer of regular game time.
