AS Roma eyeing Manchester United midfielder Fred summer transfer
Manchester United star Fred is on the radar of AS Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Brazil international could part ways with the Red Devils this summer to fund potential arrivals. To that end, Fulham are also interested in acquiring his services.
Now, the Giallorossi have joined the race for the 30-year-old’s signature. Over the years, the Portuguese manager has acquired several of his former talents from the Premier League, including Nemanja Matic last summer.
Mourinho is an admirer of Fred, having managed him for a brief period at Old Trafford in 2018. As things stand, the veteran gaffer has been provided with a budget by the Rome-based club to push for a title charge in the upcoming campaign.
United are set to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. As a result, an exit from our current crop of midfielders is likely. Erik ten Hag is open to cashing in on the former Shakhtar Donetsk star and prefers keeping a hold of the younger Scott McTominay.
The Brazilian previously played under Mourinho when he was manager of the Red Devils. However, the 30-year-old did not spend much time under the Portuguese as he was sacked a few months after the midfielder’s arrival to Manchester.
Last season, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen became Ten Hag’s preferred options in the pivot positions in the middle of the park. The former Real Madrid star was instrumental to our success.
On the other hand, the Denmark international did not feature much in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign due to an injury. Unfortunately, Fred put in inconsistent performances in the 31-year-old’s absence.

Therefore, it seems like the right time to part ways with the Brazilian considering his diminished role since the Dutch manager’s arrival. However, it will be interesting to see whether a reunion with Mourinho is on the cards for the 30-year-old.
