Atalanta reject Manchester United’s €35m Rasmus Hojlund bid
Manchester United’s €35million bid for Atalanta hotshot Rasmus Hojlund has apparently been rebuffed by Atalanta.
The Red Devils are actively in search of a new centre-forward and Hojlund’s name has come to the fore in the meantime. He ended last season with nine goals and four assists in 32 Serie A games.
That was enough to catch Manchester United’s attention, who are in search of a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in November and Wout Weghorst’s return to Burnley from his loan spell.
But according to Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United’s bid has been rejected. And it makes sense from Atalanta’s point of view.
What next for Hojlund and Man United?
They would be seeing the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal going bonkers in the transfer market and they would wonder why their coveted asset can’t rake in a huge sum as well. We ourselves paid £73million for Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund.
Not a good precedent to set. But from Man United’s POV, that bid also made sense. He hasn’t proven himself in Italy over an extended period of time and while being 20 years old would drive up his price tag, it also means he is inexperienced.
And there is also no guarantee that he succeeds here in England. If we are told to pay a bigger sum than that — like, a considerably bigger one — it would be better for us to look elsewhere and sign a proven, experienced centre-forward.

But then again, those teams will also be aware of the desperation within Old Trafford to bag a world-class centre-forward. Why not just put Marcus Rashford up top and sign a quality left winger? Penny for our thoughts…
