Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois on Manchester United radar
Manchester United have Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois on their radar in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional.
This summer, the Red Devils will look to strengthen a host of areas. However, Erik ten Hag is also eyeing a new goalkeeper. To that end, the Belgium international’s name has come up alongside Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and England number one Jordan Pickford.
While the Old Trafford side realise that dealing with Florentino Perez, Los Blancos’ president, will not be an easy task, they are still willing to try their hands at making a move for the 31-year-old.
To that end, United are prepared to pay €90 million to acquire the services of Courtois. The Red Devils are confident of striking a deal. However, the shot-stopper’s current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit runs until June 2026 and he is happy in Spain.
Madrid signed the Belgian in the summer of 2018 from Premier League rivals Chelsea. His first season at Los Blancos was underwhelming. However, since then, the 31-year-old has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Courtois has been a key player for the La Liga giants over the years. The shot-stopper has made some impressive saves during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu side, especially in the Champions League.
At United, David de Gea was called upon regularly by Erik ten Hag last season. The Spaniard put in some decent displays in the Dutch manager’s first year in charge. Unfortunately, he also made a number of errors.
The veteran goalkeeper’s existing deal with the Red Devils will expire in the coming days. While the 32-year-old has been an excellent servant at the Old Trafford side, he has left a lot to be desired at times since the 2018 World Cup.
