Manchester United in pole position to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as Chelsea exit race
Manchester United are now believed to be in pole position to sign Inter Milan’s Andre Onana after Chelsea have exited the race to sign him.
The Evening Standard claim that Manchester United are now leading the race to sign the £50million-rated Cameroonian. Chelsea have also ended their interest in AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
But getting back to us, it is perfect that we are now leading the race to sign such a world-class goalkeeper. Onana can help us play out from the back.
That is a tactical aspect we haven’t been able to properly execute with David de Gea or Dean Henderson in goal. Onana was visibly brilliant in Inter Milan’s run to the UEFA Champions League final last season.
Onana to United?
Let’s hope we can now bring the price tag down if there is no other competitor for Onana. Then again, Inter signed him just last summer from Ajax.
If they want to progress and build on the season they just had, then they would surely want to keep him. If not, then they can hope to make a little profit on him.
It is important that we strengthen the areas that we are unsure about when we head into the new season. Winning a domestic cup competition and finishing in the top four is well and good.
But if we want to consistently challenge a team like Manchester City, we need to make our starting XI very strong. A new goalkeeper who is an upgrade on De Gea will benefit us in the long run. A new striker, similarly, is also very important.
