Manchester United set to offer more than £50 million for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Manchester United are set to put in an improved offer worth more than £50 million for Mason Mount, who plays for Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to talkSPORT on Twitter (h/t The Sun).
The Red Devils’ first bid for the midfielder was rejected by the Stamford Bridge side recently. As things stand, the Blues want close to £80 million for their academy graduate.
As a result, Liverpool have dropped out of the race for the England international due to the huge price tag. However, the Old Trafford side are keen on negotiating a lower fee with the West London club to acquire the 24-year-old’s services.
Mount made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. The midfielder broke into the first team setup a few years back under Frank Lampard and has since become one of the Blues’ best players, lifting the Champions League in 2021.
However, at the moment, the English national is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Stamford Bridge side. It does not look like the playmaker will put pen to paper on a new deal anytime soon, with talks between the two parties at a standstill.
In the 2022/23 campaign, Mount looked short on confidence. The West London club endured an abysmal season overall and the English national lost his place in the starting lineup.
United bolstered their engine room last summer with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. However, in January, the addition of Marcel Sabitzer proved to be crucial to add depth to our midfield.
However, the Austrian only signed for us on loan from Bayern Munich. Erik ten Hag has Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek at his disposal. But the trio have been inconsistent over the years.

Therefore, we could evidently do with more quality in the middle of the park. Mount is going through a rough patch but has proven himself for both Chelsea and the Three Lions. However, whether the Old Trafford side will be able to come to terms with the Blues over the 24-year-old’s valuation remains to be seen.
