Leon Goretzka plans Bayern Munich stay amidst Manchester United links

Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka does not plan on leaving the Bundesliga giants anytime soon amidst links with a move to Manchester United.

There have been suggestions that the Germany international would be keen on making a switch to the Old Trafford side in the ongoing transfer window. Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster the engine room this summer with a central midfielder.

However, speaking to Sport1 (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 28-year-old has pledged his future to the Allianz Arena side and has no intention of parting ways with them.

“I have no other plans than staying at Bayern. We have big plans for next year, as Joshua Kimmich said after the Ukraine game.”

Goretzka is currently on international duty with Germany. Die Mannschaft have not had the best of times in recent fixtures. The 28-year-old played a part in their friendly draw to Ukraine and the loss against Poland recently.

The midfielder did not have the best of seasons with Bayern either. In the 2022/23 campaign, the Bavarians barely got their hands on the league title, beating Borussia Dortmund to the trophy on the last day of the term.

In the summer of 2018, the Bundesliga giants signed Goretzka from Schalke 04. Since then, the German national has been a key player for the Allianz Arena side as they have dominated the league. The midfielder also won the Champions League in 2020.

At United, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were Erik ten Hag’s first-choice in the middle of the park last season. However, the Denmark international looked lethargic towards the end of the term.

The 31-year-old was signed by the Red Devils as a free agent last summer. While the playmaker has surprised many with his importance to the Dutch manager’s plans, we could evidently do with an upgrade in the area of the pitch.

Goretzka has been one of the best box-to-box midfielders over the last few years. But it looks like the Old Trafford side will not be able to acquire the services of the German national this summer.
