Lisandro Martinez set for discussion regarding new Manchester United contract

Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez is set to sit down and have a discussion with the club regarding a new contract, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are going to travel to the United States of America in July for a pre-season tour. That is when the Old Trafford side and the Argentina international will talk about the new deal.

In the summer of 2022, the 25-year-old signed for United from Ajax Amsterdam. The centre-back reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester and has been trusted by the gaffer throughout the current campaign.

We ended the season finishing third in the Premier League. Qualifying for the Champions League is an impressive feat for the Dutch manager in his first year in charge.

Ten Hag also ended the Red Devils’ six-year trophy drought with the Carabao Cup win. The gaffer also led us to the FA Cup final. Unfortunately, we were unable to get past Manchester City.

Martinez has been a big part of our success in the current campaign. The defender has formed a formidable partnership with Raphael Varane. The Argentine and French nationals have been the Dutch manager’s preferred duo in defence at the Old Trafford side.

The 25-year-old has exceeded expectations at United. The centre-back’s aggression and tenacity have made him an instant fan favourite.

Unfortunately, against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, Martinez picked up a knock. Subsequently, he was ruled out for the season. Without the Argentine, we have looked vulnerable at the back.

Considering the defender’s performances for the Red Devils, he deserves a raise. Hopefully, the 25-year-old will be back in action soon and the club will tie him down for years to come.
