David de Gea has ‘agreed’ terms over new Manchester United contract
Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea has ‘agreed’ to fresh terms with the Red Devils over a contract extension, according to The Telegraph.
The 32-year-old’s existing deal is set to expire at the end of the season. As things stand, the Spaniard will be a free agent next summer. However, the Old Trafford side look to have secured the goalkeeper’s future beyond the current campaign.
De Gea will be on a lower salary, but the new contract includes incentives regarding appearances and performances in competitions. All that is left now is for the shot-stopper to put pen to paper to make things official.
While the Spaniard is set to continue at Man United, a starting berth is not guaranteed. While the veteran goalkeeper has made several pivotal saves, he has also been culpable of errors on a number of occasions.
Against West Ham United in our previous fixture, the 32-year-old was at fault as Said Benrahma gave the Hammers the lead in the first half. As a result, we ended up losing 1-0.
De Gea signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid. For over a decade now, the Spaniard has been the number one in between the sticks at the Manchester-based club.
Unfortunately, over the last few years, the game seems to have passed the veteran goalkeeper. Playing the ball out from the back is something more and more teams are trying to implement, including Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford side. But the 32-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in that regard.
But the gaffer does not have a lot of quality options at his disposal in the goalkeeping department. Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are in our ranks. Dean Henderson is on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Therefore, for now, De Gea is our best bet. Hopefully, the Spaniard will be able to adapt slightly next season and polish out some of his mistakes.
