Barcelona joined by Real Madrid in the pursuit of Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot
Spanish giants Real Madrid have joined Barcelona in the pursuit to sign Manchester United star Diogo Dalot, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The two La Liga outfits are keen on bolstering the right-back position in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, both of them have the Portugal international as one of the names on their shortlist.
As things stand, the 23-year-old is on the radar of a number of top teams. However, the Blaugrana have been monitoring him for some time now and Los Blancos are also interested.
Barcelona have relied on Jules Kounde to play on the right-hand side of their defence for most of the season. On the other hand, Dani Carvajal has struggled at Madrid for some time now.
Dalot has been a pivotal player for Erik ten Hag at United. However, his current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire in the summer of 2024, leaving the door open for a transfer in the coming months.
The Portugal international signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. But prior to this season, the right-back has mostly been a bit-part player at the Manchester-based club.
It was only after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Ralf Rangnick gave the 23-year-old regular opportunities in the starting lineup. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was ahead of him in the pecking order in the past.
Subsequently, with the arrival of the former Ajax head coach at United, the former Crystal Palace star’s fortunes have changed. The gaffer hardly counted on him before the 2022 World Cup.
But in recent months, the English national has put in some encouraging displays and has made a place for himself in Ten Hag’s plans. But the 25-year-old is not the best going forward.

Dalot is a well-rounded modern full-back. While his form has dipped in the last few weeks, the Portuguese is still a key player for us. Therefore, it would be wise of us to keep Barcelona and Madrid away from him.
