Aston Villa eyeing Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson
Premier League rivals Aston Villa have ‘set their sights’ on Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, Emiliano Martinez is the number one at the Birmingham-based club. The Argentina international has been impressive for the Lions. However, the Red Devils’ loanee is seen as a possible replacement for the World Cup winner.
The England international is expected to leave the Old Trafford side in the upcoming transfer window. Next summer, the 26-year-old could garner a respectable fee for the Manchester-based club.
Henderson made his way through the youth ranks at Man United. After an eye-catching spell with Sheffield United, the goalkeeper returned to the Old Trafford side.
In the 202/21 season, the England international shared minutes with David de Gea in between the sticks. However, the Spaniard regained the number-one spot at the Manchester-based club in the previous campaign.
As a result, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, the 26-year-old struggled for minutes. Subsequently, he joined Forest on a temporary move last summer.
With the Tricky Trees, Henderson has enjoyed regular minutes in between the sticks. The shot-stopper has put in some encouraging performances over the course of the season.
However, the England international will return to Man United after his loan spell ends. At the moment, apart from De Gea, Erik ten Hag has Tom Heaton and Jack Butland at his disposal. With all due respect, the two are not up to the Red Devils’ standards.

Therefore, we evidently do with more quality in the goalkeeping department. However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Henderson. But with the 26-year-old approaching his prime physical years, it is seemingly unlikely that he will want to compete for minutes at the Old Trafford side.
