Manchester United have held ‘very positive’ talks with the representative of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Express).

The Red Devils have held the first round of discussions with Jeffrey Lemmert, the 22-year-old’s agent. In the upcoming transfer window, the Dutch national is eyeing a move away from the Bundesliga outfit.

Erik ten Hag is also an admirer of Frimpong. The youngster’s current contract with the BayArena side is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Therefore, it remains to be seen how much the German outfit will demand for the right back.

The 22-year-old is familiar with English football. He spent time in Manchester City’s academy before moving to Celtic. From the Glasgow-based club, the Dutch national joined Leverkusen in January 2021.

Over the years, Frimpong has developed into a fine player in Germany. In the current campaign, the 22-year-old has taken his game to the next level.

The youngster has been ever-present in Xabi Alonso’s team’s starting lineup this season. He has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists.

At the moment, Diogo Dalot is Ten Hag’s first-choice right-back at United. The Red Devils are in discussion with the Portugal international over extending his existing deal.

On the other hand, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also at the Dutch manager’s disposal for the right-hand side of the defence. In recent weeks, the gaffer has given the English national some opportunities, which he has taken with both hands. However, the 25-year-old could be sold at the end of the season.

If the former Crystal Palace star were to leave next summer, the Red Devils would evidently need to reinforce the right-back spot. Frimpong is still young and has shown a lot of potential. However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will acquire his services.
