Raphael Varane credits “confidence” and “discipline” for Manchester United success this season
Manchester United star Raphael Varane has credited “confidence” and “discipline” for the success the Red Devils have enjoyed so far this season.
The Old Trafford side are in fine form at the moment. Erik ten Hag has managed to turn things around admirably after the shaky start to the campaign, with the losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.
Since then, the gaffer has made some major decisions and has been able to slowly implement his style of play in Manchester. Currently, we are alive in all four competitions.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, the France international has credited two things for the upturn in fortunes at United this term.
“I think first of all, it is the confidence and secondly I think it is the discipline. I think tactically we are following exactly the rules. We know exactly how we want to play and manage the game.”
The former Real Madrid star made his way to the Red Devils in the summer of 2021. However, last season, neither the centre-back nor the team lived up to expectations.
We failed to put up a challenge in any of the major competitions. Subsequently, the Old Trafford side finished sixth in the league. By the end of the previous campaign, we had parted ways with both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in a matter of months.

Then, Ten Hag was appointed United’s head coach. Over the course of the season, the Dutch manager went on to drop some major names from the starting lineup, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire.
Also, the gaffer has been able to bring the best out of some of our players, including Varane. The French national has been ever-present in the backline alongside Lisandro Martinez.

Ten Hag has us in a good position in the Premier League table. We will also have the opportunity to end our five-year-trophy drought with the Carabao Cup final on Sunday (26 February). Hopefully, the Dutch manager will be able to take us back to the top.
