Chelsea to put Mason Mount up for ‘sale’ this summer summer amidst Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea will put Mason Mount up for ‘sale’ in the upcoming transfer window amidst interest from Manchester United, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News].
At the moment, the 24-year-old’s current contract at the Blues is set to expire in the summer of 2024. As a result, if the Stamford Bridge side are unable to agree new terms with the midfielder, they will opt to part ways with him in the coming months.
The West London-based club have held several meetings with the England international about extending his stay. However, the two parties have been unable to make any progress during the negotiations up until now.
At least once, Mount has also rejected Chelsea’s long-term offer. The midfielder is not looking to put pen to paper on the kind of deals that the likes of Mykhaylo Mudry and Enzo Fernandez have signed, keeping them at the club for eight-and-a-half-years.
The 24-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side. After a few impressive loan spells, it was Frank Lampard who gave the playmaker his first-team break with the Blues, having managed him at Derby County.
Over the years, the England international has developed into a fine player. However, in the last few months, he has been underwhelming for the West London club.
Mount has lost his place in Graham Potter’s team in the last few fixtures. The English gaffer has an abundance of talent at his disposal after the last two transfer windows.
At United, Bruno Fernandes is currently the first choice in the number 10 position. In recent matches, Erik ten Hag has also experimented with deploying Jadon Sancho in the playmaking position.

While Mount is a quality player, it will evidently be difficult for him to get a regular starting berth at the Old Trafford side. However, it will be interesting to see whether the Red Devils will pursue the 24-year-old’s signature if he is made available.
