Barcelona trying to ‘disrupt’ new contract talks between Manchester United and Diogo Dalot
Spanish giants Barcelona are trying to ‘disrupt’ talks between Manchester United and Diogo Dalot over a proposed new contract, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Blaugrana have been linked with a move for the Portugal international in recent transfer windows. There is still ongoing interest in the 23-year-old’s signature.
Earlier in the season, the Red Devils triggered a one-year extension in Dalot’s deal. The right-back is now tied down at the Old Trafford side until the summer of 2024. Discussions between the club and the player have been positive.

The 23-year-old signed for United in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. In his debut season, the Portuguese played a backup role at the Old Trafford side.
However, with the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019, Dalot saw his game time dwindle. The former Crystal Palace star was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred option at right-back.
Subsequently, the Portuguese joined AC Milan on loan for the 2020/21 campaign. The 23-year-old enjoyed considerable minutes and opportunities in Italy.

Upon his return to Manchester, the former Porto star found himself once again behind Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order. The 25-year-old was one of the first names on the team sheet until the arrival of Ralf Rangnick.
The former interim head coach gave Dalot a chance in the team. Now, under Erik ten Hag, the Portuguese has displaced the former Palace star in the pecking order.

The 23-year-old has been pivotal to the Dutch manager’s plans in the current campaign. He has made 26 appearances in all competitions since the arrival of the new gaffer, scoring one goal and providing three assists. Hopefully, United are able to fend off interest from Barcelona and secure the right-back’s long-term future.
