Manchester United looking to find a compromise to extend the contract of David de Gea
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are willing to land a compromise and offer a new contract to extend the stay of goalkeeper David de Gea.
It is revealed that United are ready to offer a £250,000-per-week week in order to keep hold of the Spaniard. They are adamant about not matching his current wage which is £375,000-per-week.
The 32-year-old’s current contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of this season, with an option to extend that by a year (Transfermarkt). But, it seems like the club wants him to stay for years to come.
The good news is that the talks are ongoing and there is positivity on this subject. A few days ago, de Gea himself said that he is confident about the direction of the new contract talks.
The Spaniard has been in typically top form throughout the course of this season so far. He always comes up with key saves to frustrate opposition teams.
Even in a supposed comfortable 3-0 win over Leicester City, de Gea made two key saves when the score was 0-0. That gave the team a platform to launch itself and decimate the Foxes’ back-line.
There is a caveat that he is not good with the ball at his feet. But, given how much he outweighs that with the incredible saves every week, it would be hard not to play him just because a mistake on the ball can happen once in a few whiles.
For Erik ten Hag, can he accept that due to his goalkeeper’s fragility on the ball, a goal or two can go in? He is sure to redeem himself with fantastic saves anyway.

Moreover, de Gea has the experience and nous of what is required to be successful at Manchester United. He has done so much for the team in a phase they have poor. It is time the club rewards him adequately too.
