Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Aston Villa, are interested in signing AS Roma star Tammy Abraham, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are currently monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation at the Giallorossi. However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will make a move for the England international’s signature in the coming months.

As for the Villans, they know all about Abraham. The striker spent a season on loan at the Birmingham-based club during the 2018/19 campaign, finding the back of the net on a consistent basis. He made 40 appearances in all competitions for the Lions, scoring 26 goals.

Subsequently, the 25-year-old went back to Chelsea and became a key player under Frank Lampard. The England international thrived under the former head coach of the Stamford Bridge outfit.

However, with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, the forward saw his game time dwindle. The West London club also bought Kai Havertz and Timo Werner at that time.

In the summer of 2021, after Abraham lost his place at Chelsea, he decided to join Roma. The England international thrived in his debut campaign under Jose Mourinho in Rome.

However, this term, the 25-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net. But the Giallorossi are still in a good position to fight for a top-four spot in the Serie A table.

At United, Erik ten Hag has a lack of options in the number nine position. Anthony Martial has been injury prone this season. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit, Wout Weghorst signed for the club on loan from Burnley in January.

Therefore, we evidently need a natural striker in the team. However, Abraham’s current form is a bit concerning. Thus, before opting to pursue the 25-year-old, it would be wise of us to go after a proven goal-scorer.
