Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay will be allowed to leave Manchester United next summer
Manchester United are willing to let Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay leave the club in the upcoming transfer window, according to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News).
There has been interest in the signatures of the England and Scotland internationals in January. West Ham United are eyeing the centre-back, while Newcastle United are looking to get a hold of the midfielder’s signature.
However, while the Red Devils are open to their summer exit, the club are not considering letting the duo leave this month. Erik ten Hag is keen on maintaining the depth of the squad until the end of the season with the Old Trafford side still alive in all four competitions.
But in the next transfer window, United are expected to spend money. Therefore, some stars will need to depart in order to have a balanced group of players and to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
The Red Devils signed Lisandro Martinez in the summer of 2022. The Argentina centre-back has made an immediate impact at the Old Trafford side and has been one of the preferred choices in the backline.
Raphael Varane has been deployed alongside the 25-year-old on a majority of occasions. The two have formed a solid partnership in the Manchester-based club’s defence.
As a result, Maguire has been reduced to a role off the bench. However, the former Leicester City star showed glimpses of his quality for the Three Lions in the 2022 World Cup.
United also signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the previous transfer window. The two have become key players for Erik ten Hag in the engine room, leaving McTominay with reduced minutes.

One could not fault the Scotland international or our captain if they decided to leave the club for pastures new, considering their dwindling role in the squad. For now, hopefully, the two will give their all when called upon by the gaffer.
Maguire and McTominay were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second and eighth-most-used players at Manchester United, respectively. They have now completely fallen down the pecking order.
