Manchester United ‘open’ to sending Charlie McNeill on loan in January transfer window
Manchester United are ‘open to sending’ Charlie McNeill on loan in the ongoing transfer window amidst the search for a new striker, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are looking to bolster their forward line in January. However, if the club receive an appropriate offer for the 19-year-old, the Old Trafford side will consider it.
McNeill is already attracting interest from a number of clubs in the Football League. The youngster is willing to make a move for the rest of the season to gain more first-team experience.
The English national made his way back to the Red Devils three years ago. In 2014, the forward had left the Old Trafford side to join Manchester City.
McNeill is a promising prospect who has scored over 600 goals at the youth level. In the previous campaign, the youngster was at Sheffield Wednesday. However, it was a work experience loan and he was allowed to train with the senior side but not play for them.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for United this season in the group stages of the Europa League. In the 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad, the forward came on as a substitute for Tyrell Malacia in the 83rd minute.
However, since then, McNeill has only been named in the matchday squad once, which was against Sheriff Tiraspol in our second UEL group stage match.
United’s forward line has seen its depth dwindle with the untimely exit of Cristiano Ronaldo. As a result, Anthony Martial is the only natural number nine in the squad.

McNeill is a great prospect. However, the club seemingly cannot pin their hopes on the 19-year-old to lead the line. He currently lacks experience. Thus, it would be wise to let the English national further his development elsewhere for the time being.
