Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram decides against contract extension amidst Manchester United interest
Marcus Thuram has ‘decided’ not to extend his current contract with Borussia Monchengladbach amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Tele Foot on Twitter (h/t Mirror).
The France international’s existing deal with Die Fohlen expires at the end of the season. As a result, the 25-year-old is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2023 unless the Bundesliga outfit opt to cash in on him in January.
However, Die Fohlen would demand £13.2 million in the ongoing transfer window in order to part ways with Thuram. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also eyeing his signature and if he has rejected a new deal, then it would be music to the ears of his suitors – who can expect a cut-price deal in January or a free transfer in the summer.
On the other hand, Inter Milan have already made an offer to the France international, presenting him with a four-year deal to sign in June. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the 25-year-old.
Thuram has made up his mind regarding leaving Gladbach, having signed for them in the summer of 2019. Thus, it remains to be seen which club ends up acquiring the forward’s services.
The France international has mostly played on the wings during his time at Gladbach. However, Daniel Farke has opted to play him primarily as a number nine, where the 25-year-old has thrived.
United’s front line has lost a bit of strength with Cristiano Ronaldo deciding to leave the club in November. Now, Erik ten Hag is left with Anthony Martial as the lone natural striker in the squad.
Thuram’s form saw him catch Didier Deschamps’ eyes as well. He was part of the Les Bleus squad that made it to the final of the 2022 World Cup. But France lost to Argentina in the penalty shootouts.

The 25-year-old has shown goalscoring prowess in the current campaign. But if the Red Devils do want to sign him, it would be wise to hash out a deal in January, considering the number of clubs that could be in the race to sign the French national for free in the summer.
