Arsenal and Manchester United reach out to representatives of Barcelona forward Memphis Depay
Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal, are ‘interested’ in signing Barcelona star Memphis Depay in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t The Sun).
The Red Devils and the Gunners have reached out to the representatives of the Holland international. Both the clubs want to discuss a possible move with the 28-year-old’s camp.
Depay is set to have a sit down with the Blaugrana this month to make a decision on his future. The forward is eyeing a return to the Old Trafford side. But the La Liga outfit wants a transfer fee to part ways with the 28-year-old in January.
The Holland international current contract at Barcelona expires at the end of the season. In the English top flight, Chelsea and Newcastle United are also eyeing his signature.
Mikel Arteta’s team are looking for a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian picked up an injury at the 2022 World Cup. A lack of depth could evidently jeopardise Arsenal’s chance to stay at the top in the PL.
Similarly, United are also searching for reinforcements after Cristiano Ronaldo’s unceremonious exit midway through the season. We are also fighting for a place in the top four in the league.
Depay has previously played for the Red Devils after signing for us in the summer of 2015 from PSV Eindhoven. However, the Holland international was underwhelming in Manchester and left after one and a half years.
The forward earned the move to Barcelona after impressing at Olympique Lyon. However, this season, the 28-year-old has hardly featured for Xavi’s team.
