Atletico Madrid loan demands for Portugal forward Joao Felix could ‘put off’ Manchester United
Manchester United could be ‘put off’ by the loan demands of Atletico Madrid for Portugal international Joao Felix, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
Los Rojiblancos are open to letting the 23-year-old leave the club on a temporary deal. However, the La Liga giants want an £8 million loan fee with no obligation to buy in the summer. They also want interested clubs to cover the forward’s £250,000-a-week salary in full.
Currently, the Red Devils are unlikely to spend big in January after the incoming in the summer of 2022. Thus, the Old Trafford side are open to getting someone on a short-term basis.
The Manchester-based club are looking for an out-and-out striker, a number nine. However, the upcoming transfer window will not present many opportunities. Thus, we could also opt for a more versatile attacker.
Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has held discussions with United as well as Arsenal. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also eyeing the 23-year-old’s signature at the moment.
The Portugal international has had a hard time impressing in Spain since his move from SL Benfica. In the current campaign, the forward has gone down the pecking order.
But Felix showed a glimpse of his talent at the 2022 World Cup. The 23-year-old was a key player for Fernando Santos in Qatar. However, Portugal were unable to get past Morocco in the quarter-finals.
At the moment, United only have one natural striker in the squad—Anthony Martial. While the France international has been in great form, he has struggled with injuries in the current campaign.
