Manchester United tipped to enquire about AS Roma star Tammy Abraham

Manchester United have been tipped to enquire about AS Roma star Tammy Abraham after missing out on Cody Gakpo, who has joined Liverpool. The Merseysiders have signed the Holland international from PSV Eindhoven.

The Red Devils were interested in the 23-year-old signature. However, the Old Trafford side decided against battling Jurgen Klopp’s team for the forward’s signature.

Speaking to GiveMeSport (h/t Express), journalist Dean Jones has claimed that United admire Abraham and could ask for details about the England international.

“They might even make a check on Tammy Abraham. They like him a lot, so they might even put a check in there.”

The 25-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. After impressing out on loan at Aston Villa, Frank Lampard gave the striker an opportunity in the Blues’ first team.

Abraham was decent, leading the line for the Stamford Bridge side. However, with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in West London, the England international went down in the pecking order.

In his debut season in Rome, the 25-year-old thrived under Jose Mourinho. In 53 appearances in all competitions for the Giallorossi in the previous campaign, he found the back of the net 27 times.

However, the striker has been a bit underwhelming this term. He also missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

United recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo midway through the season. As a result, Anthony Martial is currently the only number nine in the squad. Unfortunately, the France international has been injury prone this season. Thankfully, Marcus Rashford has done well up front in the current campaign.

Thus, the Red Devils evidently need a new striker in January. We are fighting for a place in the top four in the Premier League. However, it remains to be seen whether Roma will be willing to let go of Abraham in the upcoming transfer window.
