Patrice Evra concerned about Manchester United being overly dependent on Alejandro Garnacho
Manchester United icon Patrice Evra is concerned about the Red Devils being overly dependent on youngster Alejandro Garnacho. The ex-Red Devil does not want the 18-year-old to be the club’s “saviour”.
The Argentine national has saved us with his impressive cameos in recent fixtures. Against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, he provided two assists in a 4-2 victory, while against Fulham in the Premier League, the forward scored a stoppage-time winner.
Speaking to Betfair (h/t Manchester Evening News), Evra, who spent eight years at United, is unhappy that the Red Devils have had to depend on Garancho. The former left-back believes it is an indication of something being wrong at the club.
“If you are at a club like United or Juve, if it’s kids that make the difference that’s when you know something is wrong because in my time you had 20 personalities and characters, then the young players would come and be a surprise, but not the saviour.
“I don’t like that. I love Garnacho but I don’t want him to be the saviour, because if he is, it means something is not right.”
The 18-year-old did not get a lot of opportunities at the start of the season. He made the bench, but Erik ten Hag did not give the youngster a lot of game time.
However, with certain players in our forward line being forced on the sidelines, the Argentine national was given a run in the team. The winger’s performances warranted his subsequent appearances.
Garnacho made his full debut for the Red Devils in the Europa League group stage this season against Sheriff Tiraspol at home. A week later, the 18-year-old started for the Old Trafford side against Real Sociedad in the UEL.
In the fixture against La Real, the Argentine national scored his first goal for the club’s senior side. We got a victory over the La Liga outfit as the match ended 1-0.
Garnacho brings energy to the side when he plays. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, we are lucky to have someone like the youngster to count on.
