Manchester United forward Antony shared his delight on social media after the team’s win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup
Manchester United resumed their restart in the second half of the campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Championship outfit Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
Erik ten Hag was missing many key players for the fixture but still managed to field players who had represented their respective countries at the FIFA World Cup 2022.
While Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Cristian Eriksen started the game, Ten Hag had the option of Antony, Luke Shaw and Fred to call from the bench.
The first few minutes seemed like the players have been away from international duty with the team not being able to build on concentrated game-play which is reasonable considering how every team at the World Cup had different tactics to deploy.
A goal from Cristian Eriksen in the first half and a thumping run and finish from Marcus Rashford for the second goal ensured the team was comfortable heading into the last thirty minutes, moments before Antony entered the pitch for the departing Alexandro Garnacho.
The Brazilian shared his happiness over the victory in the cup tie with his fans via Twitter and would be looking to create a bigger impact in the coming games than he did versus Burnley.
Antony’s big-money move from Ajax was met with a lot of excitement and hype and he showed glimpses of what he can offer by being the first Manchester United to score in his first three games for the club.
It showed a lot about the talent that the club has acquired. However, since that, the player’s progression stopped with minor injuries also not helping the cause with additional pressure on the player of making the World Cup squad.
With everything in the dust now, Antony has to prove himself and why Ten Hag was adamant about his recruitment. He does look like a player who will entertain the crowd with his flicks and tricks but his end product still needs more work.
It was evident against Burnley as well in the thirty minutes that he was on the pitch, except for one effort at goal, he was not able to trouble the opposition defence at all.
