Kleberson urges Manchester United to sign SL Benfica and Portugal star Goncalo Ramos
Former Manchester United star Kelberson has urged the Red Devils to sign SL Benfica and Portugal star Goncalo Ramos. The ex-midfielder feels the club needs a goalscorer.
The Old Trafford side lost Cristiano Ronaldo just before the start of the 2022 World Cup. His untimely exit has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options in the attack.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes (h/t Metro), Kleberson, who was part of Brazil’s 2002 World Cup winning squad and spent two seasons at United, believes Ramos could be the missing piece for the Dutch manager’s team.
“In my opinion, it’s that last area where they need to strengthen; they need someone who can come in and get goals. Even if it takes that player a little while to get used to whatever system the manager wants to play, they need a guaranteed goalscorer.
“Goncalo Ramos, the Portuguese kid, can be that guy. He’s really young, but he’s already shown us what he’s capable of, on the biggest stage of all at the World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland.”
The 21-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at the Primeira Liga outfit. In the previous campaign, the striker broke into the Portuguese outfit’s first-team squad.
However, with Darwin Nunez joining Liverpool in the recent transfer window, Ramos has taken the mantle at Benfica. The 21-year-old has flourished for the Eagles this season.
The Portuguese has been in fine form for the Primeira Liga outfit. He has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Primeira Liga outfit in the current campaign, finding the back of the net 15 times and providing six assists.
Ramos also impressed in Qatar with Fernando Santos’ team. The 21-year-old was picked ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for Os Navegadores in their round-of-16 fixture against Switzerland at the World Cup. The Benfica forward scored a hattrick in the 6-1 win.
With the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s departure from United, Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the squad. Unfortunately, the France international has been on the sidelines for most of the season. As a result, Marcus Rashford has played up top on several occasions.
