SL Benfica join Manchester United in the race for Chicago Fire forward Jhon Duran
Primeira Liga outfit SL Benfica have joined Manchester United and other Premier League sides in the race for Chicago Fire star Jhon Duran, according to Portuguese outlet Record (h/t The Daily Mail).
The Eagles are interested in taking the 19-year-old to the Lisbon-based club in the upcoming transfer window. From the English top flight, the Red Devils, along with Chelsea and Liverpool, are eyeing the youngster.
Graham Potter’s team and the Old Trafford side have already made enquiries for Duran. The 19-year-old’s family and representative have travelled to England and are seemingly open to a move.
The forward has shown great potential at the MLS side. In 28 appearances for Chicago Fire, he has found the back of the net eight times and provided six assists.
Duran has also been handed three caps for Colombia. The 19-year-old made his international debut against Guatemala in an international friendly, coming on as a substitute in the second half. Los Cafeteros won the fixture 4-1.
Benfica already have a great prospect in their team. They sold Darwin Nunez in the recent transfer window to Liverpool. However, Goncalo Ramos has filled the Uruguayan boots at the Lisbon-based club.
At United, Erik ten Hag’s options up front have dwindled due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely departure. We only have one natural striker in the squad at the moment in Anthony Martial.
But the France international has had issues with remaining fit this season. As a result, Erik ten Hag has opted to play Marcus Rashford in the number nine position.

Thus, it is evident that the Old Trafford side need to add reinforcements up front. While Duran has great potential, it would be wise to go after a more experienced forward at the moment but it won’t hurt to bring him on as an investment for the future.
Benfica are notable for bringing in some of the best young players in the world and selling them for a good amount. If they want Duran, they see something in him and so should we.
