Toni Kroos calls France and Manchester United star Raphael Varane the “complete package”
Manchester United and France star Raphael Varane has been termed as the “complete package” by former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos. The Germany international is impressed by the 29-year-old’s pace.
The 2018 World Cup winner joined the Red Devils from Los Blancos in the summer of 2021. However, his debut campaign was not the best. But the defender has come into his own this season.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper Real Total via the club’s official website, Kroos, who played alongside Varane for seven years, has lauded the centre-back’s quality.
“He’s incredibly fast. Really one of the fastest team-mates, I would even say. He was a solid pillar for us alongside (Sergio) Ramos for many years. He did an outstanding job and is really the complete package.
“He doesn’t do miracles with the ball but is a highly awkward defender to play against. You can’t beat him in the air and, as I said, he’s incredibly fast, so you can’t run away from him either. He’s a good man.”
The France international joined the La Liga giants in the summer of 2011 from French side RC Lens. Over time, the defender grew in stature at Madrid. He spent several successful years with Los Blancos, winning multiple trophies.
In the previous campaign, Varane struggled with injuries. The 29-year-old was unable to showcase his true potential. However, that has changed this season.
The defender has been rock solid for us this term. Erik ten Hag has partnered the former Madrid star with Lisandro Martinez. The Frenchman has formed an impressive duo with the Argentina international.
Varane is currently with his national side in Qatar. The centre-back has featured in all but one game for Les Bleus at the 2022 World Cup. Didier Deschamps’ team have made it to the final of the prestigious tournament.
France will go up against Argentina. Varane and Martinez will go up against each other if they feature on Sunday (18 December). Les Bleus are aiming to get their hands on a second consecutive World Cup trophy after the 2018 triumph in Russia.
