Manchester United preparing £43.1 million offer for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo
Manchester United are preparing a £43.1 million offer for PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].
The Red Devils tried to bring the 23-year-old to the club in the summer of 2022. Erik ten Hag likes the Holland international and the Old Trafford side are set to make a move once again in the upcoming transfer window.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the club midway through the season. The 37-year-old’s departure has dwindled the Dutch manager’s options up front. As a result, the Manchester-based club are desperate to add reinforcements to their attacking line.
Gakpo has been in fine form for the Eredivisie outfit in the current campaign. In 24 appearances for PSV in all competitions this term, he has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists.
The 23-year-old also shone for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup. He scored in every group-stage fixture for Louis van Gaal’s team. The forward featured in every game for the Oranje. However, they lost to Argentina on penalties in the round of 16.
United currently have only one natural striker in the form of Anthony Martial. But the former AS Monaco star has struggled with remaining fit this season.
Marcus Rashford has had to lead the line for the majority of the campaign. But while the Old Trafford side’s academy graduate has been good up front, he is not a number nine.
Ten Hag has other players, such as Antony and Jadon Sancho, in the attack. The Brazilian has had a quick start to life in Manchester, but the former Borussia Dortmund star has struggled.
